> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

Contacts represent website visitors and store marketing-related information about them. In the **Kentico Xperience Business** edition, contacts cover only subscribed visitors (identified by email address). In the **Kentico Xperience Enterprise** edition, contacts cover both anonymous visitors (depending on the [Default cookie level](https://docs.kentico.com/13/developing-websites/working-with-cookies.md), identified by an HTTP cookie) and registered users or customers (identified by email address). The system automatically gathers data about contacts based on the actions and input of the associated visitors.

To be able to work with contacts in the **Contact management** application, you need to have the permissions for the [On-line marketing](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-on-line-marketing-permissions.md#on-line-marketing) and [Contact management](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-on-line-marketing-permissions.md#contact-management) modules.

## Enabling on-line marketing

To be able to track visitors on the live site as [contacts](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/managing-your-on-line-marketing-features/contact-management/working-with-contacts.md) in the **Kentico Xperience Enterprise** edition, you need to enable the on-line marketing functionality in the **Settings** application.

1. Open the **Settings**application
2. Navigate to **On-line marketing**.
3. Select the **Enable on-line marketing** check box.
4. Click **Save**.
5. To ensure that contact tracking works correctly, the developers of the live site need to follow the instructions in [Setting up contact tracking](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/setting-up-contact-tracking.md).

## Configuring contacts

In the **Kentico Xperience Enterprise** edition, you can make the following adjustments to enable marketers to work with contacts more efficiently.

To make the system automatically collect and update the data of each contact based on the information provided by the corresponding user, you need to:

- [Configure contact recognition](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/configuring-contact-recognition.md)
- [Map fields to contact attributes](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/mapping-fields-to-contact-attributes.md)
- [Use geolocation for contacts](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/using-geolocation-for-contacts.md)

To store and organize data about contacts that is not collected by the default fields, you need to:

- [Add custom fields to contacts](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/adding-custom-fields-to-contacts.md)

To achieve better performance, limit the volume of unnecessary contact management data:

- [Set up automatic deletion of contacts](https://docs.kentico.com/13/on-line-marketing-features/configuring-and-customizing-your-on-line-marketing-features/configuring-contacts/setting-up-automatic-deletion-of-contacts.md)
