> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

In general, [memberships](https://docs.kentico.com/13/managing-users/membership-management.md) group together one or more existing [roles](https://docs.kentico.com/13/managing-users/role-management.md). In the e-commerce context, memberships are typically associated with a certain [product](https://docs.kentico.com/13/e-commerce-features/managing-on-line-stores/products/managing-product-representations/managing-e-commerce-memberships.md), which [customers](https://docs.kentico.com/13/e-commerce-features/managing-on-line-stores/customers.md) can then purchase. This allows them to gain access to restricted sections of the website or other types of premium content for a specified amount of time.

> **Info:** You can assign memberships only to [registered customers](https://docs.kentico.com/13/e-commerce-features/managing-on-line-stores/customers/registering-customers-manually.md).

To assign a membership to a customer:

1. Open the **Customers** application.
2. **Edit** () the desired customer.

   > **Tip:** If you have multiple memberships, you can use the filter above the membership listing.
7. (Optional) You can select until when the customer is a member of the membership in the **Valid to** field. Then, the system automatically removes the membership from the customer.
