Allowing users to categorize documents on the Form tab

You can allow editors and other users to categorize documents on the Form tab of the Pages application. This makes it possible for users to categorize documents when they are being created. Users can also categorize existing documents without having to access the Properties tab.

To allow users to categorize documents on the Form tab, add a new field to the document type that you want to allow categorizing on the Form tab for.

  1. Open the Document types application.
  2. Edit the document type for which you want to allow categorizing on the Form tab.
  3. Switch to the Fields tab.
  4. (Optional) Click () and create a New category for the new document tagging field.
  5. Click New field.
  6. Fill in the properties of the new field as follows:
    1. Field type: Standard field

    2. Field name: DocumentCategories (for example)

    3. Field type: Text

    4. Field size: 100

    5. Field caption: Document Category (for example)

    6. Field description: any description that you want users to see when hovering over the field caption

  7. Save the field.

Now, whenever users edit documents of this type on the Form tab or create new documents of this type, they can tag the documents as well.
