title: Registering your application to LinkedIn
---

> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

To use LinkedIn authentication on your website, you first need to create a LinkedIn application:

1. Sign in to your LinkedIn account at <https://www.linkedin.com> or create a new account.
2. Visit <https://www.linkedin.com/secure/developer>.
3. Click **Create Application** on the My applications page.

4. Fill in at least the required fields (marked with red asterisks).
5. Click **Submit**.

LinkedIn redirects you to a page showing the details of your application. On the **Authentication** tab, you can find the **Client ID** and **Client Secret** values. You need to enter these values in Kentico: **Settings -> Social media -> LinkedIn**. See [Settings - LinkedIn](https://docs.kentico.com/k8/configuring-kentico/managing-sites/configuring-settings-for-sites/settings-social-media/settings-linkedin.md) for more details.

> **Note:** **Apply with LinkedIn program**
>
> If you wish to load birth date values for users who register on your site using their LinkedIn credentials, your LinkedIn application requires the **r\_fullprofile** permission. Loading of the birth dates can be configured through the **Require birth date** property of the **LinkedIn logon** web part. If you enable the property without the required permissions for your LinkedIn application, registration and authentication will not work.
>
> To obtain the permission, you need to apply and be approved for the "Apply with LinkedIn" program: [Apply with LinkedIn](https://developer.linkedin.com/docs/apply-with-linkedin)
