Categorizing is useful when you want to distinguish related pages in the system based on, for example, their topic. You can create a category hierarchy in which you can map the various topics the pages on your site cover. Categorizing is a different approach to sorting pages in the system from the one described in [Tags](https://docs.kentico.com/k10/managing-website-content/working-with-pages/tagging-pages.md).

Developers can create pages so that users can then view pages based on the categories they are interested in.
