After configuring your server as described in [WebDAV requirements and limitations](https://docs.kentico.com/k10/managing-website-content/configuring-the-environment-for-content-editors/configuring-webdav/webdav-requirements-and-limitations.md), users who meet the client-side requirements can start editing files in page attachments or pages using the File field (e.g. _CMS.File_ page type) using WebDAV.

Users can edit page attachments using WebDAV in the **Pages** application, after selecting a page in the content tree and switching to its **Properties -> Attachments** tab. The **Edit in client application** () icon is displayed next to each attachment whose extension is included in **Settings ->  Integration -> WebDAV -> Supported file extensions**.

The same **Edit in client application** () icon is displayed on the **Form** tab of pages using the File field (e.g. _CMS.File_ page type) where a file with a supported extension is uploaded.

- Clicking the icon opens the page in a client application associated with the particular file extension (e.g. _.docx_ pages are opened in MS Office Word).
- Edit the opened file and save your changes using the **Save** button.
- Close the client application and try to open the page again, either from the UI or from the live site.
- You should see that the file that you modified has been saved to the server and the version that you have just opened contains the previously made modifications.

You have learned how page attachments or pages using the File field can be edited using a client application when WebDAV integration is enabled. Editing of any other file types in any other client application (e.g. _Microsoft Office_ _Excel_, _PowerPoint_, _Paint_, etc.) can be performed exactly the same way - all you need to do is click the **Edit in client application** () icon, edit the file and save it in the client application. Transfer of the updated file to the server is handled automatically Kentico.

### Required permissions

For the **Edit in client application** () icon to be enabled, the **Modify** permission for the current page must be granted to the current user (or one of the roles the user is assigned to).
