title: Configuring Windows Live ID authentication
---

> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

Live ID authentication settings are located in **Settings -> Security & Membership -> Authentication -> Windows LiveID**.

Before you start entering values, make sure you have the correct site selected in the **Site** drop-down list.

- **Enable Windows Live ID authentication** – indicates if Windows Live ID authentication is enabled.
- **Application ID** – the identifier of the related Microsoft authentication application. Enter the _Application (client) ID_ of your application. For more information, see [Registering your application to use Microsoft accounts](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/managing-users/user-registration-and-authentication/configuring-third-party-authentication-services/windows-live-id-authentication/registering-your-application-to-use-microsoft-accounts.md).
- **Application secret** – secret code used to encrypt messages transferred between your website and the Microsoft authentication application. Enter a valid _Application client secret_ value for your authentication application. For more information, see [Registering your application to use Microsoft accounts](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/managing-users/user-registration-and-authentication/configuring-third-party-authentication-services/windows-live-id-authentication/registering-your-application-to-use-microsoft-accounts.md).
- **Assign new users to roles** – new users registered via Live ID authentication will be assigned to the roles specified here.
- **Required user data page** – URL of a page containing the _Required LiveID user data_ web part. If entered, new Live ID users who sign into the site will not have their user account created immediately, but will first be redirected to the specified page where they will be required to enter some additional data (or merge with an existing account) using the web part.
