UI Controls are [user controls](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/aspnet/y6wb1a0e\(v=vs.100\)) that provide the functionality of common elements within the Kentico administration interface. The UI controls offer:

- A high degree of versatility
- Extensive customization options
- Built-in support for loading and displaying Kentico data

You can work with the UI controls when extending the administration interface (for example as part of [custom modules](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/custom-development/creating-custom-modules.md)), or even utilize them for custom purpose on websites built using the [Portal Engine](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/developing-websites/portal-engine-development-overview.md) development model.
