The system allows you to label users with badges. The badges are images with a short title, which express a user's activity level, importance or role in the context of the website. The system can display badges in forum posts, on user public profiles, and in your own custom controls.

There are two **types of badges**:

- **Automatic badges** - assigned to the users automatically by the system, based on the users' number of activity points. Each time a user gains [activity points](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/community-features/badges/assigning-badges-to-users.md), for example by posting on the website's forums, the system checks whether the level required for a new badge was reached. If this is the case, the system updates the badge.
- **Non-automatic badges** - assigned to the users by site administrators. These badges are permanent unless changed manually, regardless of the number of activity points gained by the users.

In the screenshot below, you can see one of the pre-defined badges used in a forum post.
