When developing [on-line stores](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/e-commerce-features.md) in the [MVC development ](https://docs.kentico.com/k12sp/developing-websites/mvc-development-overview.md) model, you use Kentico as a content platform with e-commerce data and develop the website as a separate MVC application. Both applications access the same database. You are in full control of the MVC application and can interface with Kentico as required to retrieve data, perform price calculations, and utilize other e-commerce features the system offers.
