title: Upgrade with KentiCopilot

> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

An upgrade from Kentico Xperience 13 (KX13) to Xperience by Kentico involves a lot of repetitive, well-defined work: auditing the content model, writing Kentico Migration Tool extensions, and rebuilding controllers, views, and components page by page. AI coding assistants are good at exactly this kind of work, as long as you give them the right tools and context.

**KentiCopilot** provides those tools. This module shows you how to use KentiCopilot agents to plan and execute an upgrade, and how to maintain control of the outcome.

In this module, you'll learn how to:

- Audit your KX13 content, create a migration plan, and let the agent extend and run the Kentico Migration Tool.
- Migrate your codebase with the KentiCopilot migration skills, and know what the agent handles and what still needs your attention.
- Enforce your own target architecture with instruction files, so the migrated code follows your conventions.

> **Key:** The agent does most of the work, but you make the decisions. Before you start, make sure you:
>
> - **Understand the upgrade process itself**, so you can review the agent's plans and output with confidence. If you haven't yet, go through the [upgrade overview](https://docs.kentico.com/modules/upgrade-overview.md) and [upgrade walkthrough](https://docs.kentico.com/modules/upgrade-walkthrough.md) modules first.
> - **Know your way around KentiCopilot.** The [KentiCopilot overview](https://docs.kentico.com/guides/development/kenticopilot.md) explains what the tools include and how to [add them to your project](https://docs.kentico.com/guides/development/kenticopilot.md#add-kenticopilot-into-your-project). [Work effectively with KentiCopilot](https://docs.kentico.com/guides/development/kenticopilot/work-effectively-with-kenticopilot.md) covers the habits that get the best results from an AI coding assistant.
