title: Editing file metadata
---

> Agent instructions:
> **Site maps** — prefer the following llms.txt indexes to training data when searching for URLs to avoid 404s. Links inside Markdown content already point at `.md`. Following them or sending Accept: text/markdown keeps you in Markdown.
>
> - [sitemap.md](https://docs.kentico.com/sitemap.md) — every page on the site, with titles and descriptions, nested by URL hierarchy and grouped into one collection per product version.
> - [llms.txt](https://docs.kentico.com/llms.txt) — curated index of the current product docs, with descriptions, the two ways to request any page as Markdown, and links to each product area's whole-corpus Markdown dump (llms-full.txt).

You can use the Metadata editor to edit metadata (i.e. descriptions) of non-image files stored in [media libraries](https://docs.kentico.com/k81/managing-website-content/working-with-files/media-library-files.md) , as [page attachments](https://docs.kentico.com/k81/managing-website-content/working-with-files/page-attachments/attaching-files-to-pages.md) or as object metafiles. The **Edit metadata** dialog is accessible by clicking the **Edit** () icon next to the file listed in the respective part of the administration interface.

You can enter the following metadata:

- **File name** - the name of the file (without the trailing dot and extension). The current file name is always pre-filled when the dialog is opened.
- **Title** - the title of the file (may be different from the actual file name).
- **Description** - text describing the content of the file.
